Objectives of Surah Al Asr

- Allah Almighty says: “By the time, indeed, mankind is in loss except those who believe and do righteous deeds and enjoin each other to truth and enjoin each other to patience.” In this noble verse, Allah Almighty swears by the age. Scientists and jurists explain that the word era here comes in the sense of time.
- The jurists emphasized that this oath cannot be taken by a slave. But this oath can only be given to Allah Almighty. A servant cannot swear by anything other than Allah. As an indication of this, the words of Abdullah bin Omar Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with them both. He said that the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Whoever swears an oath, let him swear by Allah or remain silent.”
