Information About Surah Kafirun

First, before we present the virtue of Surah Kafirun.

We will present some important information about Surah Al Kafirun in the following simple points:

  • Place of revelation: Surah Al-Kafirun is one of the Meccan surahs according to Al-Hasan and Ibn Masoud. And Ikrimah, which is one of the Medinan surahs according to Qatada, and one of the opinions of Ibn Abbas and Al-Dahhak.
  • Number of verses: Surah Al-Kafirun is one of the short surahs, as it contains only 6 verses.
  • Number of words and letters: Surat Al-Kafirun contains 27 words and 98 letters.
  • Arrangement in the Holy Qur’an: Surah Kafirun is the one hundred and ninth surah in the Holy Qur’an and it is located in the thirtieth part of the sixtieth party.

Reason of Revelation

As for the reason for the revelation of this Surah, a group of infidels came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. To offer him that they will worship what he worships for a year.

And for the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and those with him to worship what they worship for a year.

So the revelation came down to the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, with Surah Kafirun, in order to respond to them and reject their demand.

Ibn Ishaq and others mentioned on the authority of Ibn Abbas: Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah and Al-Aas bin Wael. Al-Aswad bin Abdul Muttalib and Umayyah bin Khalaf; They met the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace. They said: O Muhammad, come, let us worship what you worship, and you worship what we worship, and we and you share in all our affairs.

If what you brought was better than what we have, we would have shared it with you and taken our share of it. If what is in our hands is better than what is in your hand, you would have joined us in our matter. And you took your luck from him.

So Allah Almighty revealed: Say, O disbelievers.
Abu Saleh said on the authority of Ibn Abbas: They said to the Messenger of Allah – may Allah bless him and grant him peace -: If you received some of these Allahs, we would believe you.

So Gabriel descended upon the Prophet – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – with this Surah, and they despaired of him, and they harmed him and harmed his companions. Allah Almighty alone is worthy of worship. He is the Creator of this entire universe.

It is He who has everything in His hand and to Him all matters return. The first pillar of Islam is the testimony that there is no Allah but Allah, and Surat Al-Kafirun came to emphasize singling out Allah Almighty for worship and rejecting the demand of the infidels of Quraysh.

Thus, after we have explained the reason for the revelation of Surat Kafirun, we can now move on to mentioning the virtue of Surah Kafirun in detail.

The Benefits of Surah Kafirun

All the surahs of the Holy Quran have great merit, but there are some surahs that were mentioned individually in the Prophetic hadiths, and it is desirable to read Surah Kafirun in several places that were mentioned in the noble prophetic hadiths, which we explain as follows:

It is recommended to read Surat Al-Kafirun when sleeping

This is due to what was mentioned in the Musnad of Imam Ahmad that the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: Recite in your sleep, “Say, O disbelievers.” He said: Then sleep at the end of it.

It is a freedom from polytheism. It was classed as hasan by Al-Arna’ut, narrated by Abu Dawud, and authenticated by Al-Albani.

When praying the two rak’ahs of Nimaz Fajr

Muslim narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, recited: In the two rak’ahs of Fajar.

It is recommended to read it in the Witr Prayer

This is what Ahmad narrated in his Musnad.

From the hadith of Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both: The Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, used to perform Witr prayer with three things. Praise the name of your Lord, the Most High, and say, “O disbelievers,” and say, “He is Allah, One.” It was authenticated by Al-Arna’ut.

When praying the two rak’ahs of circumambulation behind the shrine of our master Ibrahim: Muslim narrated in his Sahih on the authority of Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with them both. The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to recite in the two rak’ahs, “Say, ‘He is Allah, One,’” and “Say, O disbelievers.”

When performing the regular Sunnah prayer for the Maghrib prayer (after)

Ahmed narrated in his Musnad on the authority of Ibn Omar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.

He recited the two rak’ahs before dawn and the two rak’ahs after sunset twenty-one times. Or a few ten times, say, “O disbelievers,” and say, “He is Allah, One.” It was authenticated by Al-Arna’ut.

The benefits  of reading the Quran

After we mentioned the virtue of Surah Kafirun, we now move on to mentioning the virtue and reward of reciting the Qur’an in general. When we recite every letter in the Qur’an, we will be rewarded for it. Reciting the Qur’an is one of the great acts of worship, and we mention the benefits of the Holy Qur’an as follows:

  • The Messenger of Allah, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: (And no people gathered in one of Allah’s houses, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descended upon them, mercy enveloped them, angels surrounded them, and Allah mentioned them among those with Him.) Narrated by Muslim.
  • It has been authentically reported from the Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, that he said: “O people, you must do as many deeds as you are able, for Allah does not tire until you tire. The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that he does regularly, even if they are few. Whenever the family of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did a deed, they would prove it. Narrated by Muslim.

A Hadith Reported about the benefits of reading the Quran

  • It was mentioned in the authentic hadith on the authority of Abdullah bin Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to me. (Read the Qur’an in a month. I said: I will find strength. Until he said, “Recite it in seven, and do not exceed that.” Then Amr said, after old age overtook him: “I wish I had accepted the concession of the Messenger of Allah.” This hadith explains the desirability of completing the Quran once every month, and if there is the ability, then once every seven days.
  • As the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: (It is said to the reciter of the Qur’an: Read and grow. Your status is at the last verse you recite.” Narrated by Abu Dawud and Al-Tirmidhi, who said: A good and authentic hadith.
  • It is authentic according to Al-Tirmidhi from the hadith of Abdullah bin Masoud, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah will have a good deed for it. A good deed is multiplied tenfold. I do not say: “alam” is a word, but “alif” is a letter, “lam” is a letter, and “meem” is a letter.

Conclusion

Islam commands us to worship Allah alone with no partners, and Surah Kafirun confirms this matter. Allah Almighty has honored us by worshiping Him alone. We thank Allah Almighty for giving us Islam and saving us from the misguidance of the infidels and polytheists and the worship of idols.

Thus, we have reached the end of our article and we have presented the benefits of Surah Kafirun, and important information about it, in addition to the virtue of reading the Holy Qur’an. We ask Allah to accept good deeds from us and from you.
